Weekend for the record books

This past weekend was one of pretty much perfection. It was perfect ratio of busy/relaxing. The perfect ratio of eating whatever we wanted to/working out. The perfect ratio of kids needing us to love on them/letting us do our own thing. Like I said, one for the record books.

We kicked it off by going to get donuts Friday morning with BeBe and D-daddy. They had kept Row and Isla the night before, so it was a good chance to get to see them before they had to go back. We went to a local bakery called Clayborns and I happen to believe that they have the best donuts around.  In particular, their cinnamon roll. Connor loves it there and could probably make himself sick if I'd let him. He comes by it honestly!

It has been rainy around these parts, which means there has been a lot of crafting and inside playing going on. It has made for a lot of extra giggles, actually, and that is something I'll never complain about!

Saturday morning, Matt was participating in a local half marathon. The boys and I got up early to make the drive there to support him and BeBe. We had such a good time looking for them and cheering for the runners. Having been one of those a couple of times I can assure you that they do appreciate every clap and cheer they hear...whether they know you or not!

This race is one of the smaller ones, so it was easy to find everyone. We set up first in between mile 6 and 7. As soon as we saw Daddy and BeBe, we headed to the finish line. I was so diligent the night before and google mapped four different places we could go to watch at our first stop....and then forgot to look up how to get to the finish line! Thankfully, it wasn't that difficult and we made it in time. Matt's goal was to run it in 1 hr 50 min. I saw him enter into the track (where you have about maybe .20 left) and I looked at the clock to see it at 1:49ish. I knew that if he was going to make it, he didn't need to slow down at all. I was a nervous wreck and kept thinking, "Don't slow down. Don't slow down. " And he didn't! Finished at a 1:49:39! So proud of him!

Sunday involved a little working out (with the help of some peppermint essential oils!)

and some one on one time with my cute little assistant. We made some GF brownies, which tasted more like cake. Which is fine, because I now have a great and fluffy GF chocolate cake recipe! HA!

The boys played so well together.. to the point that I mentioned it at least 3 times that night and the next day. Makes my heart happy to see them becoming best friends right before my eyes.

Can you tell someone had a lick of the spatula when we were baking?!?!

Cade's vocabulary has exploded and I pretty much think he has the cutest little voice ever. One of my favorites that he says is "Right There or Over There...only because it's like THU-AIR.

Connor's new thing is to figure out what every single word he comes across starts with. Which is so fun and sometimes equally exhausting. Cade has picked up on it, too!

FIVE on Friday

I have seen so many lovely ladies join in on  this link up and while I'm trying to get back into the groove of blogging, I figured this would be a great way to start! The link up par-tay is hosted by DarciChristinaApril and Natasha (all of whom have seriously cute little spaces on the interwebs. Definitely go check them out!!)

{one} I went to see Lone Survivor with a girlfriend last night at the late show. First off, let me just say it is so, so good. And pretty intense. I'm not sure if it was that or the cup of coffee I drank on the way there, but I had a hard time going to sleep. I think I got about 5 hours, which is not near enough for me. Momma likes her sleep. But, seriously, highly recommend the movie if you haven't seen it.

{two}Matt and I have started training for our 2nd half marathon. I have been having a horrible time with my shins and was thisclose to hanging my running shoes up. I took a week off and enjoyed some extra classes at the gym and even did a little workout at home. Then Wednesday MawMaw called and asked if she could come watch the boys for a couple of hours. I checked the weather and while it was supposed to be in the mid 20s, it was sunny with no wind. I decided to go for it and ran outside. And knocked out 7 miles!!! Pain free! To say I was elated was an understatement! I never got cold until I stopped and then it took me almost 45 minutes to regain function in my hands. HA!

{three} I am the worst online shopper ever. I so want to be one of those girls who can see something and just order it so carefree, but I'm not. I'll go back and forth for what feels like hours worrying that I won't like the way it looks on me, won't fit right, color will be off, etc. Which, is why I bring in the help of my sister in law (hi ape!)  to just tell me what to do :) Thankfully, she told me to order the pair of pants I was looking at and now I am so excited to be able to wear them! I found this look on pinterest that I knew I had to recreate

source unknown

I am getting started by ordering these pink pants. They are so cute and can be uncuffed or rolled down some more.

Now to just find that amazing lace top..HA!

{four} We went to a Harlem Ambassadors game on Monday night because I knew the boys would love it. Cade especially. Turns out I wasn't wrong:

This child hears even the slightest beat and starts breaking it down. Saying "Bo, Bubba, Bo, Bubba" the whole time. Cracks me up.

{five} We are watching the Superbowl at my BIL's house with a few friends. While I am super excited about hanging out and do want Peyton Manning to win, I could care less about the game. If anything, I'm just excited that it is kind of a "night off" from cooking! Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!!

Cade's 1st Birthday: You Are My Sunshine

*** Edited to add that the video is now working. I didnt realize it was set to private! Thanks for letting me know!!

I can't believe I am just now getting around to posting about Cade's birthday party. It went exactly as I had envisioned.. laid back, sweet and simple. I put on IG that night that it was good to my soul and it truly was!

Instead of doing another long post full of pics, I put together another video :).

I'll be back soon with a couple of DIY projects that I put together for the party!

Ready or not...

...here he comes! My sweet little Cade is trying his hardest to start scooting and crawling. This boy has not enjoyed being a baby his entire life! He has wanted to do things early from the beginning! I can already see how my world is going to change OH SO MUCH once he does start. He is already to the point where I can't leave him on the floor for long because he will finagle himself halfway under the couch or get a foot underneath the entertainment center. I can only imagine how it is going to be when he starts getting into things. I took this video last Friday and it is crazy how much more he is doing even today.

I think one of his biggest motivators is his big brother. He wants everything Connor has. We were in church a few weeks ago and Cade was sitting in Matt's lap and Connor was in mine. Cade was not facing us, but was arching and twisting his entire body around to try to get Connor's flashcards he was looking at. He is a little swiper! It already drives Connor crazy, and as much as my world is about to be rocked, so is his! In fact, I hear, "No, Cade. That is mines" quite a bit. We are working on that ;)

A few days ago I put them both in Connor's bed to play so that I could prop Cade up and not worry about him falling over so I could take pictures :) It was actually Connor's idea, as he loves putting Cade in his "cwib" with him. He was all, "Cade. Come get in my's cwib. Come and pway wif me." (side note: the come and pway wif me?? seriously, my fav right now. Gets me every time!)

He was telling him about each animal and how that was Noah's boat. Essentially teaching him a bible lesson. He didn't even care that Cade was all up in his business. He was teaching and, well, Connor likes to teach/be the boss.

That is until swiper went in for the swipe. Notice how Connor's hand is getting ready to block it. And notice how Cade's mouth is one of determination and intent. This, my friends, is only going to get more interesting from here on out!

I feel so unbelievably blessed that I am able to watch this relationship between my boys grow. It never fails to make my heart want to burst out of my chest!

Chatty man

You know what is worse than having pink eye? Having a loose hair tickle your eye lid and not being able to scratch it because you have pink eye. So annoying! Anyway...

You know how I told you Cade is pretty vocal? Well, the proof is in the pudding.

Oh me. I think this one is going to keep me on my toes!!!

I hope everyone has a good weekend. One of my besties is coming in town and I CANNOT wait to see her! Here is for a miraculous recovery overnight so she doesn't feel like she has to go ahead and head into the doctor after seeing me!
