The trip that didn't happen

I spent almost all day Wednesday getting ready for a long weekend trip to Arkansas. The boys and I were going by ourselves, so I wanted everything I might even think about needing within arms reach. By Wednesday night I had the car entirely packed besides the things we would need for Thursday morning. You see, we were going early to surprise my dad for his birthday. It was going to be brilliant, because I had just talked to him on Wednesday and he was saying how he guessed it was going to be Christmas before he saw them again. Just made me that much more excited to surprise him! I also had one of my best friend's baby shower on Saturday to go to that I had been counting down the days for since I found out about it. Not to mention that Mom and I were going to go shopping on Friday. I was excited all around!

Cue Thursday around 10:15. My first little wave of nausea hit, but I really just thought it was because I had only eaten a bowl of cereal while drinking a cup of coffee. As the time came for us to leave, I was scarfing down lunch hoping that would help. It didn't, but I threw the boys and the remainder of what we needed in the car and went on my way.

The boys were great. I told Connor that he needed to close his eyes and take a nap before we would watch a movie and once I stuck my iPod, with the white noise app going, in Cade's carseat they were both out before we were out of Nashville. I was still having some pretty strong waves of nausea, but I was determined to keep going.

Then we got to Paris (about 1 1/2 hrs out of Nashville) and I had to stop and feed Cade. We went inside so I could get a Sprite and try to stop Connor from touching everything in the store. I fed Cade and I don't know if it was the moving around or what, but I started feeling horrible. I just knew I was going to be that mom that was standing in the parking lot holding her baby getting sick everywhere. I put him back in the car, got a movie going and got back on the road. I called Matt and told him that I wasn't sure if I could keep going. I was to the point where I was figuring out where I was going to get sick if I needed to. It was AWFUL! I called my mom and I knew if she agreed that it would be best for me to turn around that is what I needed to do. I saw a sign for Nashville that said 100 miles and she and I both agreed that is what I needed to do. By this point I was starting to ache all over and seriously thought that I might be coming down with the flu or a bad virus. I knew if that were the case that I just wanted to be home and didn't need to spread that around anyway!

Connor was NOT happy about turning around. Bless his heart, he did not understand! He kept saying, "I want to go to Papaw's house." So did I, buddy. So did I! We made it back home around 5:30 and I didn't hear a bit of crying out of the boys until 5:10. 5 hours in the car (for absolutely no purpose) and they only cried for 20 minutes. Thank you, Lord!

I feel better today, just exhausted. I am trying really hard not to be sad that I am missing everything I had planned this weekend. Unpacking for a trip that I had so highly anticipated wasn't that much fun, either! I know it could be worse, though (hello, I could have really had the flu!), so I am just thankful for that. Well, that and I'm not going to be spending any nights away from my man ;)

I hope y'all have a great weekend!

Oh no!! I am so sorry your trip did not work out but sounds like you did the right thing. I definitely know where you were. You went right through my neck of the woods probably. I live in Dover and if you took Hwy. 79 then you went right through it. Sounds like no fun but maybe it will work out for you to go another time.

Oh girl, I'm SO sorry! It's terrible feeling sick but I can't even imagine feeling that way while trying to drive. I'm glad y'all made it home safely and that the boys were sweet for you. Hope you feel back to 100 percent soon!
