One month old!

I just cannot believe that Cade is one month old! I feel like I was just pregnant this morning! It is amazing how much he has added to our little family and I know that feeling is only going to grow as he does. I love having two boys and seeing them together and still feel like I have to pinch myself to see if this is really my life. I love it!!!

Sleep: Right now, he is pretty good at night. He usually wakes to nurse and then will go right back to sleep. We have had a couple of nights where he doesn't go back to sleep. He doesn't cry until you try to put him back in bed with the lights off. He just wants something to look at until he gets tired and then you have to rock him back to sleep. I have a crib aquarium that needs batteries that I am going to install just in case that will help next time. As much as mommy loves the one on one time, I would prefer for it to be in daylight ;). Naps are a little more touch and go if we are at home. He would much prefer sleeping in my arms than be in his crib during the day, which has led to some Moby wearing time. He loves it and I have to admit, it is nice having him snuggled up so tight to me!

The days that we are in the car more, he sleeps wonderfully (as long as we are moving. otherwise he doesn't care for it). Almost too wonderfully, as those are the nights that he tends to not sleep as well! All in all, I can't complain. He is in his crib and I know that is a huge accomplishment in and of itself! I have found the best way to get him to sleep is to cuddle him tightly against my chest with his cheek up against mine while humming a song in his ear. I think it must remind him of being in the womb!

Eating: He nurses about every 3 hours during the day and night. Last night he went 5 hours! Of course, it was after having nursed at 8, so I didn't get in bed until 2 hours after that :).  He is still a pretty quick eater, which sometimes seems to be sufficient enough for him and other times I know he didn't get enough because he is ready to eat again in 2 hours. I am trying really hard not to stress out about it and telling myself it will work itself out like everything always does.

Overall, he is a very content little baby. He mostly cries when he is tired or overstimulated. And sometimes it is just because he needs a few more cuddles :). When he does cry, though, it is the full all out cry. There is no in-between for this one!

Little things I had forgotten, and some I hadn't, about having a newborn that I so love:

-Oh, I love the little bird face that pecks at my cheek when I pick him up. I love being able to see it out of the corner of my eye. Never fails to make me laugh. Matt was talking to him the other night while I was getting ready to feed him and he got his face right up next to his. Cade turned that head and snapped at his nose so fast and we both just died laughing. It is so amazing that they just know what to do, even from the beginning.

-Tucking their thumbs while they sleep. Yes, it leads to some really smelly thumb jam, but it is such a sweet sign of contentment to me. He doesn't do it as much as Connor did, though. In fact, Connor still does it sometimes when he is really, really asleep.

-The euphoric feeling I get as soon as he latches on. It is so hard to describe, but it is absolutely one of the most special things in the world to me!

-The sweet little noises they make. He has really started to make some cooing sounds and I could just sit and listen to it forever.

*I love how Connor repeats me in the background. Brother always has to have the last word. Not sure where he got that from ;)

-The sighs of contentment while nursing.

-The grunts and faces they make when trying to wake up.

-How you can just curl them up so tight against you and their little feet are totally bent and they LOVE it.

-Their smell. When I got in bed the other night I realized my pillow smelled like him. Talk about a good way to go to sleep!

-How they so instantaneously become your heart outside of your body.

Sweet baby Cade (because that is your name, you know) you came into our lives and instantly made it better. Your big brother is your biggest fan and it is looking like you are going to be his, too. He can soothe you when you are crying just by talking to you, which makes my heart leap! We love you so much little man!
