Wishful Wednesday..Charity

'I wish'... I had never-ending funds to donate to a charity and it would be to the

City of Children began in 1970 and continues today to be a successful mission model of Churches of Christ across America. The purpose is to teach the gospel of our Lord to the orphaned and needy children of Mexico. Since the beginning, 620 children and adults have become christians, with an additional 800 new christians reached through Baja missions. The Mexican government allows them to teach the gospel because they are giving their children a good home, good care and education. They are trying to bring love and happiness back into the lives of hurting children. One of the ways they accomplish this is through providing mission opportunities for visiting teams from Churches of Christ. The purpose of thier visit is to be a friend and an example of Jesus to a child. Their hugs and attention may be the love that helps heal a broken heart. If they will reach out to the children, God will overflow their heart with blessings. When they serve a meal, give a gift or drive a nail, they are doing it for Jesus as well as a child.

I found out about City of Children through Matt. He grew up going on mission trips with his youth group, and City of Children is where they go every other year (and still do). Another great thing City of Children does is give you the opportunity to sponsor a child. It is a lot like Compassion, but a little more expensive as they provide lodging as well as education and food. I would love being able to sponsor a child and eventually being able to visit him/her one day. They also offer a half sponsorship if you aren't able to fully sponsor a child.

Our church is going to City of Children this year and I am SO sad I don't get to go. Hopefully I will get to go with them in 2012!

This sounds like a really cool organization. I like how they specifically focus on the children of Mexico. I find that the charities with a narrower focus tend to waste less money and are able to actually give more.

Thanks for sharing!
