The last year!

Yesterday my man entered the last year of his twenties! I can't believe that we met in his last year in his teens and here we are at 29! I have been SO honored to have been a part of every single one of those 10 years and look forward to making sure this last one before 30 is a good one!

When Matt left for work yesterday morning, I groggily told him Happy Birthday. As soon as I woke up, I decided we were going to go surprise him at work to eat lunch with him. I just couldn't bear the thought of him eating by himself on his birthday! So, once we got there I texted him and told him to look in the bed of his truck to see if Connor's soccer ball was in there. I could see his truck from where I was parked and was just waiting for him to come out. Well, 11:30 rolled around and I see his co workers start to come out. Then I see one of them look around the bed of his truck! He, being the efficient man he is (HA!), had asked one of the guys leaving for lunch to look! So, I called him and told him that Connor was throwing a huge fit and I REALLY needed him to go check. Finally, he came out and I rolled down Connor's window so he could yell for him. He was very surprised to see us! I was glad we did it, because I think he enjoyed it and I know Connor and I did! Cade? Well, he just hung out on blanket smiling, so I guess he did, too!

I have been reading Kelle Hampton's blog, Enjoying the Small Things, for a while now. She has blogged about letting her daughter pick out gifts from the dollar store for her dad on his birthday and I knew I wanted to do it as soon as I was sure Connor would get it. I wasn't sure if he would get it this year, but I tried anyway! He definitely understood it. In fact, on the way he told me that daddy wanted Elmo and cookie!  As soon as we walked in, he saw some balls and said, "Oh, Mommy! Daddy wants a ball for his pweasant!" So, we put the ball in the cart. Then he walked around looking back and forth saying, "Hmmm..What does Daddy want?" He ended up picking out a football, basketball, big rubber ball, a bag of plastic fish and this stick with a dinosaur head on the end that has a trigger that makes the dinosaur head go up and down. We had a lot of fun showing Matt what he picked out.

I also let him pick out his birthday card. If you can't read it, it says Grandpa at the top :) (side note: I let him pick out D-daddy's card for his birthday in July and it was a Beauty and the Beast card that said "Happy Birthday Princess" HI-larious!!)

Little Brother showed his excitement about the whole thing by chewing on his new friend, Sophie. He loves it!

Daddy with his two boys. Connor is near impossible to take a picture of these days.

I surprised Matt with a Key Lime pie and I thought Connor would enjoy singing Happy Birthday to him and seeing him blow out a candle. Connor apparently thought it was for him, because he kept hiding his face while I was singing! HA!

Involving Connor in the day made it so much fun! As we said our prayers that night, we thanked God for giving Matt life 29 years ago. We wouldn't be where we are without him and we love him so much! Happy Birthday, Matt! I hope you had a good day and know how much we love you!!!!

I had read that on Kellie's blog too and loved that idea.
