This weekend I finally decided that I must learn how to sew! There is no reason for me to spend millions on etsy and not (at least try to) do it myself! Becky's mother, MawMaw, sews and she offered to teach me! I said, "Umm. Yes, please!" She said she could even teach me how to smock, but we are starting off with just a simple coverall (longall).
So, off we went to Joann's this morning. I couldn't decide whether or not I wanted to do a Christmas or Thanksgiving longall, but decided on Christmas.
I decided on that because last weekend I went to Once Upon a Child and bought a plain red courduroy in what the store tag said was 6-9 months. I looked at the tag that is actually on the outfit this morning and it said 6 months. Of course it did! That is what I get for not checking the outfit. You ALWAYS check the outfit with baby clothes! Anyway, I have no idea why I just shared my reasoning behind my decision, but I did. I'm sure it will help you sleep better tonight.
During Connor's nap (which apparently has turned into "a party in my crib" time) I searched the internet near and far, high and low for appliques. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Apparently you have to spend thousands on the machine that accepts the digital download of the applique in order to get anything cute. I realize we live in a digital world, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of sewing? Now, with that said. If anyone would like to give me one of said machines, I would not refuse it ;)
After all of the materials were bought it cost me $20, which on average is about $15 cheaper than anything I could find on etsy. I told Matt and he thought I was crazy to waste my time trying to make something when I could just buy it and be done, but I know me and know that if I accomplish this I will really enjoy it. We are going to start working on it a week from Sunday, so I'll keep you updated on the progress!
Yesterday afternoon Matt called and demanded that I meet him at Red Lobster for an extremely early supper (4:45!!!) because they have all you can eat shrimp right now. As we were getting ready to leave, I sat Connor down in the hallway so that I could put my shirt on. As I was pulling my head through I looked over at him and saw that he was falling forward. There was nothing I could do to stop it. And that led to this:
ok, you can barely see it in this picture, but it is front and center. and red. and bumpy. My son now has a front horn. I made him into a unicorn. He screamed pretty hard for a few seconds (even giving me the silent scream. Does anyone else's kid do that? This scream terrifies me. Breathe, buddy. Breathe!) but I took him into the bathroom to look at the baby and he was all smiles. I sat him on the sink with me behind him and I was holding him with one arm while I finished straightening my shirt. He leaned forward and turned on the water full blast! ha. He was soaking wet! Oh, the joys of trying to get out of the house with a baby!
I was trying to get him out of his clothes today and just when I had them pulled over his eyes, he rolled over and crawled away from me. He looked so funny crawling around with all of that on his head!
So I guess he thought that the normal way of crawling was just too boring and that bear crawling is much more fun because he did it all day today! I noticed him doing it during play nap time but didn't think much about it. Then he kept doing it. He took a few steps like this, which terrifies me with our tile floors. Do they make helmets for babies?! haha
I made iced pumpkin cookies Monday that are seriously to die for. I've made them with a different recipe before, but this particular recipe (thanks Angie!) is SO much better. I've only eaten about 5 today, so I need 2 more to meet my daily quota. I better get on it!

I read your blog last night about Connor bumping his head. James had bumped his head just a few hours before! He seems to be totally fine today. I, of course, was worried sick all night long. I keep hearing that this is the first of many knots on the head... I am so not prepared for that! Oh life with boys! Your little man is so precious!
I seriously can't belive that boy is crawling. I don't know that William could get his tummy off the floor even if he could get on his hands and knees! ha! That bear crawl is too funny! Oh, and you're welcome for the recipe AND the extra few pounds they may cause.:-)
So excited your learning how to sew! I never thought I would be able to, but with practice, lots and LOTS of practice, it's kinda working for me now! And it's fun to come up with cute stuff too!
Oh and Addi does that no breathing cry too and it scares me to death! Ahh!
Can't wait to see some of your projects, you'll be addicted.
