Friendship Christian Homecoming

Last night Matt and I went to his alma mater's homecoming. We didn't see any of Matt's old classmates, but I know it was still surreal for him to be there. We left at halftime as the score was 58 to 0. This was the opposing teams first year to have a football team. In fact, the last play I watched Friendship play was for them to punt on first down. For those of you who don't know much about football (mom), you usually don't punt until 4th down. Basically, they were just giving them the ball back. I had never seen that before. I don't know what the final score was, but I'm sure it wasn't pretty.

I had been to their homecoming before, but had forgotten how different our homecomings were. They of course had the class attendants and the queen, but the similarities stop there. I am now wondering if all homecomings here are like that. At Searcy's homecoming everyone dressed up and wore a corsage of sorts that looked like this:

Can you believe people wear those things? They are SO heavy too! Ours had all kinds of trinkets hanging from them. In my research, I have noticed the web calls this a Texas thing, but it was also an Arkansas thing. Does anyone know if other Tennessee schools wear corsages?

One thing that Friendship does that our school didn't do is a parade. They have a parade that goes around town and I get stuck in it EVERY SINGLE YEAR! I don't know why it happens, but everyone pulls over and stops like it is a funeral procession. Matt thinks it is hilarious that I get stuck in it, because he would go crazy if he were in it. Lucky for me I always carry something to read with me, so I just read while they drove on by with their floats :) Gotta be prepared!

Finally, I would ask that everyone say a quick Woo Pig this afternoon around 2:30. We are playing Alabama and I'm afraid it won't be pretty! Also, Matt and I play each other in Fantasy this week! I hate that he is going to lose to his wife, but that is what he gets for marrying a football loving wife! ;)

I recently came across your blog and I totally understand the whole confussion over the mums being a Texas thing because here in southwest Arkansas we all wore mums for homecoming.
